4/23/2018 – Day 45

Laurel Creek Campsite to Wapiti Shelter – 33.3 miles

A few milestones today. It’s my birthday, I reached 600 miles, and I set a personal record of miles hiked in one day! I don’t even care that it rained the second half of the day. I woke up at 5am. 2-Clicks, Grant, and Gramps were already up and moving surprisingly. I set off at 5:45 and got to the Outpost just after 8am when it opened. Walked in to screams of “Happy Birthday”, hot food, a public bathroom, and lots of snacks to keep me full until tomorrow. I was hiking on my own pretty much all day. Made it to the shelter right at 7pm to fine that a spot in the shelter was saved for me. This tramily I’m a part of has some incredible people. More birthday shenanigans happening tomorrow at Woods Hole!

600 miles in! You can’t see it in this picture but I hiked all day with the pink “birthday girl” ribbon attached to the back of my pack that I got from the Laughing Hearts Hostel in Hot Springs.
